10 The third driver is the Black Sea - as an area of international exchange and Bucharest as direct hinterland of the Port of Constanţa, the largest commercial port to the Black Sea. The inland infuence of Constanţa is transmitted through the intermodal corridor consisting of the high speed railway connecting Bucharest to Constanţa, the A2 highway and the navigable Danube together with the Danube - Black Sea Canal. Thus, the intermodal corridor completes Romania’s international economic integration axis. Currently, this axis lacks two important elements: the Bucharest - Danube Canal, a project of medium- and long-term interest, and a direct railway connection between Bucharest and Giurgiu, of immediate interest, refected in the priorities of the Ministry of Transport. In this territorial setting, Laser Valley - Land of Lights has the potential to become a development accelerator for an extended region - towards the west, Teleorman County and towards the east, Călăraşi and Constanţa Counties.
